What is Duplex Stainless Steel?

Duplex stainless steel is a two-phase alloy comprising approximately 50% austenite and 50% ferrite microstructure. This unique dual-phase composition gives duplex steel plates and sheets a compelling combination of properties found in neither austenitic nor ferritic steel alone.
The chemical composition typically includes chromium (up to 25%), nickel, molybdenum, and nitrogen. Molybdenum significantly improves resistance to pitting corrosion, while nitrogen reduces susceptibility to crevice corrosion and increases material strength making duplex steel sheets ideal for demanding industrial environments.
We manufacture and supply Duplex Steel Plates, Sheets & Coils conforming to ASTM/ASME A240, with werkstoff nr. 1.4462 equivalence, to clients across India and globally.
Why Choose Duplex Steel?
- Exceptional corrosion resistance
- High tensile & yield strength
- Pitting & crevice resistance
- Excellent weldability
- Low thermal expansion
- Usable up to 300°C
- Cost-effective vs. austenitic grades
- Higher formability
- Excellent impact strength
- Reduces raw material consumption

Frequently Asked Questions - Duplex Steel Plates and Sheets
What grades of Duplex Steel Plates do you supply?
We supply Duplex Steel Plates and Sheets in grades UNS S31803, S32205, S32550, S32750, and S32760, conforming to ASTM/ASME A240 standards. The Werkstoff Nr. 1.4462 (Duplex 2205) is our most commonly ordered grade.
What thickness and size range is available for Duplex Steel Plates?
Duplex Steel Plates are available from 1 MM to 200 MM thickness, in widths of 1000 MM to 3000 MM, and lengths up to 10000 MM. We also supply in coil form. Custom cut-to-size options are available as per project requirements.
What is the price of Duplex Steel Plates per metric ton?
Indicative FOB prices range from USD 500–4,000 per metric ton depending on grade, thickness, and form. Hot Rolled Duplex Plates are approximately USD 605–629/MT, while Cold Rolled Duplex Sheets range from USD 800–4,000/MT. Contact us for an exact quotation based on your specifications.
What is the difference between Duplex and Super Duplex Steel?
Super Duplex grades such as S32750 and S32760 contain higher chromium (~25%), nickel (up to 8%), and molybdenum (up to 4%) compared to standard Duplex 2205. This results in superior corrosion resistance (PREN > 40) and higher strength, making Super Duplex ideal for seawater desalination, offshore platforms, and aggressive chemical environments.
Do you offer processing services for Duplex Steel Plates?
Yes. We provide value-added processing services including cutting, forming, drilling, machining, grinding, and material testing. Custom sizes, surface finishes such as 2B, No.4, and Mirror, along with certifications like MTC and PED, are also available.
What industries use Duplex Stainless Steel Plates?
Duplex Steel Plates are widely used in oil & gas, chemical processing, marine & offshore, desalination plants, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, construction, bridges, machine building, and architectural applications requiring corrosion resistance in aggressive environments.
