Request a QuoteWelded buttweld pipe fittings are pipe fittings made of hot rolled stainless steel pipes, carbon steel pipes, alloy steel plates or formed half-shells that are seam welded along their axis. They are employed to join, divert, branch or break off sections of a piping system with a butt weld joint on the fitting end. In comparison to seamless fittings, which are shaped out of a solid billet, welded buttweld fittings are visible as they have a visible seam weld that is inspected with 100 percent X-ray radiography to ensure weld integrity.
According to ASME B16.9, the standard of factory-made wrought buttwelding fittings, the welded fittings shall conform to the same dimensional tolerances and pressure ratings as seamless fittings of the corresponding material grade and wall-thickness. This renders them an inexpensive and efficient option in large bore piping systems, offshore platforms, power plants and chemical processing plants where size ranges exceeding 24 NB are needed.
Welded buttweld fittings are manufactured through one of two primary processes. In the first method, a hot rolled pipe section is cut, heated to the forming temperature, and pressed into the required shape such as an elbow, tee, or reducer on a mandrel die. In the second method, flat steel plates are pressed into half shells or quarter segments, welded along longitudinal seams, and then formed into the final fitting shape. The seam welds are subjected to visual examination and radiographic or ultrasonic testing per applicable ASTM and ASME specifications before the fittings are released for dispatch.

DIN equivalents include 1.4301, 1.4306, 1.4401, and 1.4404. These fittings are widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, and food processing industries due to their superior corrosion resistance and cleanability.
Carbon Steel Welded Buttweld Fittings are manufactured per ASTM A234 and ASME SA234 in grades WPB, WPBW, WPHY 42, WPHY 46, WPHY 52, WPHY 60, WPHY 65, and WPHY 70. Low temperature carbon steel grades ASTM A420 WPL3 and WPL6 are also available. Carbon Steel Welded Buttweld Fittings are the most widely specified fittings in oil and gas pipelines, structural piping, and general industrial systems.
Alloy Steel Welded Buttweld Fittings are supplied per ASTM/ASME A/SA 234 in grades WP1, WP5, WP9, WP11, WP12, WP22, and WP91. These fittings are engineered for high-temperature and high-pressure service in power generation boilers, heat exchangers, and refinery process lines. Grade WP91 (9 percent Chromium, 1 percent Molybdenum) is specified for creep-resistant applications above 550 degrees Celsius.
Duplex and Super Duplex Steel Welded Buttweld Fittings conform to ASTM A815 and ASME SA815 in UNS grades S31803, S32205, S32750, and S32950. Werkstoff No. 1.4462 is the DIN equivalent for Duplex 2205. These fittings offer twice the yield strength of standard austenitic stainless steel and are used in seawater handling, subsea pipeline systems, and chloride-rich chemical processing.
Nickel Alloy Welded Buttweld Fittings are available per ASTM B366 and ASME SB366 in Nickel 200, Nickel 201, Monel 400, Monel 500, Inconel 600, Inconel 601, Inconel 625, Incoloy 800, Incoloy 825, Hastelloy C276, Alloy 20, Titanium Grade I and II, and Cupro-Nickel 70/30. These exotic alloy fittings are used in highly corrosive environments such as sulphuric acid, hydrofluoric acid, and marine service applications.
All welded buttweld fittings supplied by Amardeep Steel Centre conform to the dimensional requirements of ASME B16.9 Table 1 through Table 8. The tolerance chart below summarizes the critical plus and minus values for all fitting sizes.

Welded buttweld pipe fittings manufactured to ASME B16.9 are specified across a wide range of heavy industries. The permanent butt weld joint creates a continuous metal path that eliminates potential leak paths at the fitting connection, making these fittings the preferred choice for high-pressure, high-temperature, and corrosion-critical service lines. Amardeep Steel Centre regularly supplies welded buttweld fittings to the following industries:
Amardeep Steel Centre has been manufacturing and exporting welded buttweld pipe fittings for over two decades from our ISO-certified facility in India. Seamless buttweld fittings are formed from a single piece of solid material without any weld seam, giving them inherently higher pressure resistance. Welded buttweld fittings are fabricated from hot rolled pipes or plates that are joined by seam welding. When 100 percent X-ray inspected, welded buttweld fittings meet the same ASME B16.9 pressure ratings as seamless fittings and are the standard choice for large bore applications above 24 NB where seamless material is not economically available.
Welded buttweld pipe fittings are manufactured and inspected per ASME B16.9 (factory-made wrought buttwelding fittings), ASME B16.28 (short radius elbows and returns), and MSS SP-43 for low pressure corrosion-resistant buttwelding fittings. Welding end preparation follows ASME B16.25.
Amardeep Steel Centre supplies ASME B16.9 welded buttweld fittings in Stainless Steel (ASTM A403 WP304/316), Carbon Steel (ASTM A234 WPB), Alloy Steel (WP9, WP11, WP22, WP91), Duplex Steel (ASTM A815 S31803, S32205), Super Duplex (S32750), and Nickel Alloys (Inconel, Monel, Hastelloy, Incoloy).
ASME B16.9 covers factory-made wrought buttwelding fittings in sizes from NPS 1/2 (DN 15) through NPS 48 (DN 1200) in all standard wall thicknesses per ASME B36.10 and ASME B36.19, from Schedule 5S to Schedule XXS.
Amardeep Steel Centre provides Material Test Reports (MTR) per EN 10204 3.1, dimensional inspection reports, heat treatment certificates, radiography reports for welded fittings, hydrostatic test reports on request, and NACE MR0175 compliance documents for sour service applications.
