Stainless Steel 304L Pipes & Tubes
Amardeep Steel Centre LLP is a Mumbai based manufacturer, stockist and exporter of stainless steel 304L pipes and tubes, the low carbon variant of 18-8 austenitic stainless steel that is the industry default wherever pipework is welded on site. Restricting carbon to 0.03% max prevents chromium carbide precipitation, known as weld decay or sensitization, in the heat affected zone, so a welded joint in Stainless Steel 304L Pipes & Tubes keeps corrosion resistance close to that of the parent metal, without post-weld annealing. That single property is why SS 304L pipe is specified across chemical plants, food and pharma lines, water treatment, and cryogenic and offshore piping.
We supply SS 304L Pipes & Tubes as seamless, welded (ERW), and EFW/LSAW construction, to ASTM A312 / ASME SA312 (pipe), ASTM A358 / ASME SA358 (EFW), and ASTM A213 / A249 / A269 (Stainless Steel 304L Tubes), in UNS S30403 / Werkstoff 1.4306 & 1.4307 chemistry, sizes 1/8" NB to 24" NB and Schedules 5S through XXS. Every dispatch carries a Mill Test Certificate to EN 10204 3.1, with NACE MR0175 sour service and third-party inspection (SGS, BV, DNV, Lloyd's) available on request through our quality testing and certification process. You can also review our quality certifications or request a quote for current pricing on your size and quantity.
What Is Stainless Steel 304L Pipe?
Stainless steel 304L pipe is an austenitic chromium nickel alloy (17.5 to 20% Cr, 8 to 12% Ni) that differs from standard Grade 304 only in its carbon ceiling: 0.03% instead of 0.08%. That lower carbon content is what lets stainless steel 304L pipes be welded in the field without a stress relief or solution annealing step, at a small trade-off in tensile and yield strength versus 304. If you are weighing 304L against other common grades before you specify, our guide to 304 vs 316 stainless steel and our wider stainless steel grades and properties reference both cover how strength, cost and corrosion resistance shift across the family.

Types of SS 304L Pipes: Seamless, Welded & EFW
SS 304L Seamless Pipe is drawn or extruded from a solid billet with no longitudinal joint, giving the highest pressure rating for a given wall thickness, which makes it the default choice for high-pressure process lines within our stainless steel seamless pipes & tubes range. SS 304L Welded (ERW) Pipe, part of our broader stainless steel welded pipes & tubes range, is roll-formed and fusion-welded from strip or plate; because it is 304L, the weld itself does not need post-weld annealing to retain corrosion resistance, which keeps lead times and cost down on large bore lines. EFW/LSAW pipe extends the same benefit to sizes up to 100" NB for tanks, large ducting and structural piping. If you are still deciding which construction fits your project, our explainer on the difference between seamless and welded pipe walks through the trade-offs in strength, cost and lead time.

Applications of SS 304L Pipes & Tubes
- Chemical & petrochemical plants: process piping for acids and alkalis, welded on site without post-weld heat treatment
- Food, beverage & pharmaceutical: hygienic lines for processing, brewing, dairy and API manufacturing, with FDA compliant finishes available
- Water treatment & desalination: potable water, RO systems and wastewater piping
- Oil & gas: onshore and offshore platforms, refineries and LNG facilities
- Cryogenic service: LNG transfer lines and cryogenic storage down to -196°C
- Power generation: heat exchangers, condensers and feedwater lines
- Architecture & construction: structural tubing, handrails and marine grade cladding
Most SS 304L piping systems are specified alongside matching fittings and flanges of the same grade, so welded joints stay free of weld decay end to end. If your project needs the rest of the system, we also supply stainless steel 304L flanges, 304L buttweld fittings, stainless steel 304L plates, sheets & coils for tank and vessel fabrication, and SS 304L coil tubing for instrumentation and small bore runs. Where chloride exposure is higher, such as coastal or marine sites, compared against stainless steel 316L pipes & tubes, which adds molybdenum for extra pitting resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stainless Steel 304L Pipes & Tubes
What is the difference between SS 304 and SS 304L pipe?
The main difference is carbon content: Grade 304 allows up to 0.08% carbon, while 304L caps it at 0.03%. That lower carbon in 304L prevents chromium carbide precipitation during welding, so 304L pipe keeps its full corrosion resistance at the weld without post-weld annealing, at a slightly lower tensile and yield strength than 304.
What does ASTM A312 TP304L mean?
ASTM A312 is the specification governing seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel pipe for high temperature and general corrosive service. TP304L designates the low carbon 304 chemistry (UNS S30403) within that specification.
What is the maximum operating temperature for SS 304L pipe?
SS 304L pipe can be used up to roughly 400°C in continuous service, with allowable stress derating above this, and performs well down to cryogenic temperatures as low as -196°C, which is why it is widely used for LNG lines.
What size range does Amardeep Steel supply for SS 304L pipes?
We stock and supply stainless steel 304L pipes from 1/8" NB in seamless construction up to 24" NB in ERW/welded construction, and EFW/LSAW pipe up to 100" NB, across Schedules 5S through XXS.
Is SS 304L pipe suitable for cryogenic service?
Yes. SS 304L retains good ductility and impact toughness down to -196°C, making it a standard material for LNG transfer lines and cryogenic storage systems.
Can SS 304L pipes meet NACE MR0175 (sour service)?
Yes. SS 304L pipes and tubes can be supplied with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 compliance for sour (H2S) service on request, along with the supporting test documentation.
What certifications are supplied with SS 304L pipes?
Every order ships with a Mill Test Certificate to EN 10204 3.1, a Certificate of Conformance, and a packing/origin list. Third-party inspection from SGS, Bureau Veritas, DNV or Lloyd's is available on request.
How is the price of SS 304L pipe calculated?
Price is driven by nominal size, schedule (wall thickness), surface finish, seamless versus welded construction, order quantity, and the day's LME nickel and molybdenum rates, since 304L is a nickel bearing alloy. Request a quote for a current, size specific price.
Stainless steel 304L pipes vs. 304L tubes: what is the difference?
Pipe is sized by nominal bore (NB) and schedule under ASTM A312, and is used for conveying fluids and gases. Tube is sized by exact OD and wall thickness under ASTM A213/A249/A269, and is typically used in heat transfer or precision applications. See our full explainer: difference between stainless steel pipe and tube.
