Stainless Steel 310S Pipe & Tube Manufacturer, Supplier & Exporter in India
Amardeep Steel Centre is a Mumbai based manufacturer, stockist and exporter of stainless steel 310S pipes and tubes, supplying ASTM A312 TP310S and ASME SA312 material to furnace, heat treatment, cement, glass and petrochemical projects since 1982. We hold 310S seamless and 310S welded pipe and tube ex stock to ASTM A312, A213, A249, A269 and A358, dispatched to more than 40 countries with EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates.
310S is bought for one specific reason: it can be welded and thermally cycled at high temperature without losing corrosion resistance in the heat affected zone. If your
assembly is fabricated rather than cast or machined from solid, and it will see repeated heating and cooling through the 425 to 870 °C range, 310S is the grade. If the component is static and creep strength governs, plain 310 with its higher carbon may serve better and cost slightly less.
Send your design temperature, duty cycle, size and schedule and we will confirm which of the two is correct before quoting. Request a quote or review our quality certifications.
What Is Stainless Steel 310S Pipe?
Stainless steel 310S pipe is a high-chromium, high-nickel austenitic pipe with carbon restricted to 0.08 percent maximum. The S suffix denotes the low-carbon variant of Grade 310. Chemistry is otherwise identical: 24 to 26 percent chromium, 19 to 22 percent nickel, and a silicon allowance up to 1.50 percent that contributes materially to oxidation resistance at temperature.
The reason the low-carbon variant exists is sensitisation. When plain 310, with up to 0.25 percent carbon, is held in the 425 to 870 °C range during welding or in service, carbon combines with chromium to form chromium carbides at the grain boundaries. Chromium is drawn locally out of solution, the depleted zone loses its passive film, and the material becomes vulnerable to intergranular attack. Capping carbon at 0.08 percent leaves too little carbon available for that reaction to proceed meaningfully, so a welded joint in 310S retains corrosion resistance close to the parent metal without a post-weld solution anneal.
The trade-off is a small loss of high-temperature creep strength, which is why 310H exists at the other end of the carbon range for code work where certified creep properties govern. For the full grade-selection picture see our stainless steel 310 pipes and tubes page.

Sensitisation and Welding 310S Pipe
Sensitisation occurs when chromium carbides precipitate at grain boundaries in the 425 to 870 C range. In welding, the heat affected zone passes through that band on both heating and cooling, which is why the zone adjacent to a weld is where intergranular attack starts. Time at temperature matters as much as peak temperature: a slow cool through the band is worse than a fast one.
Because 310S restricts carbon to 0.08 percent, there is insufficient carbon available to form a continuous carbide network, and the weld zone stays substantially resistant. Practical guidance for fabricators:
- Weld by TIG, MIG or plasma using matching 310S or 310 filler; avoid autogenous welding on heavy sections
- Keep interpass temperature low and cool reasonably quickly through the sensitisation band
- Post-weld solution annealing at 1040 to 1065 °C followed by rapid cooling is not normally required for 310S, unlike plain 310
- Verify with intergranular corrosion testing to ASTM A262 Practice A or E where the service condition is critical
- Do not substitute plain 310 for a 310S call-out on a welded assembly, even where stock pressure makes it tempting

SS 310S Pipe Price
310S pricing tracks LME nickel closely, because the grade carries 19 to 22 percent nickel against 8 to 10.5 percent in 304. The alloy surcharge component is therefore large and volatile. Price also varies with seamless versus welded construction, schedule, surface finish, quantity, certification scope and destination freight. We quote live rather than publishing a list.
Stock Availability, Export and Packing
Ex stock Mumbai from 1/2 inch to 24 inch NB in SCH 5S, 10S, 40S and 80S, with larger bores and non-standard schedules manufactured to order in three to five weeks depending on mill availability. Exports to the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas on FOB, CIF and EXW terms with full documentation. Pipes are bundled with steel strapping, fitted with plastic end caps, wrapped against transit corrosion and packed in seaworthy wooden cases, each length marked with NB, schedule, specification, grade, heat number and manufacturer's symbol.

Frequently Asked Questions - Stainless Steel 310S Pipes & Tubes
What is stainless steel 310S pipe?
Stainless steel 310S pipe is the low-carbon version of Grade 310, made to ASTM A312 TP310S under UNS S31008. It carries 24 to 26 percent chromium and 19 to 22 percent nickel with carbon capped at 0.08 percent, giving service to approximately 1150 °C with good weldability.
What is the difference between 310 and 310S stainless steel pipe?
Carbon content only. 310 permits up to 0.25 percent; 310S caps it at 0.08 percent. The lower carbon prevents chromium carbide precipitation during welding, so 310S retains intergranular corrosion resistance in the heat affected zone. Chromium, nickel and temperature capability are identical between the two grades.
Is 310S the same as UNS S31008?
Yes. UNS S31008 is the Unified Numbering System designation for Grade 310S. The equivalent European designation is Werkstoff 1.4845 or X8CrNi25-21, and the Japanese equivalent is JIS SUS 310S. Plain Grade 310 is UNS S31000 and Werkstoff 1.4841, which are different numbers entirely.
Does 310S pipe need post-weld heat treatment?
Generally no. The 0.08 percent carbon ceiling keeps carbide precipitation minimal in the heat affected zone, so intergranular corrosion resistance is retained as welded. That is the main reason 310S is specified over plain 310 for fabricated assemblies. Always confirm against your project welding procedure.
What is the maximum temperature for SS 310S pipe?
Approximately 1150 °C in continuous mildly cyclic service, and around 1035 °C where thermal cycling is severe. Severe cycling lowers the usable ceiling because it promotes oxide scale spalling. Confirm your duty cycle as well as peak temperature before specifying.
What is the density of 310S stainless steel?
7,750 kg per cubic metre, or 7.75 g per cubic cm. This is lower than the 8,000 kg per cubic metre used for 304 and 316, so 310S pipe weighs roughly 3 percent less per metre at identical dimensions. Use 7,750 in any 310S weight calculation.
What sizes are available in SS 310S pipe?
Seamless and ERW from 1/2 inch to 24 inch NB, EFW from 6 inch to 100 inch NB, and tubing from 1/8 inch to 30 inch NB, in schedules from SCH 5S through XXS. Non-standard sizes are manufactured to order, typically within three to five weeks.
Can 310S be used instead of 310?
In welded and thermally cycled service, yes, and it is usually the better choice. Where high-temperature creep strength governs a static component, plain 310 or 310H performs better because of their higher carbon. Never substitute plain 310 for a 310S call-out on a welded assembly.
Which ASTM standards cover 310S pipe and tube?
ASTM A312 and ASME SA312 for seamless and welded pipe, ASTM A358 for electric fusion welded pipe, ASTM A213 for seamless tube, ASTM A249 for welded tube, and ASTM A269 for general service tubing. All designate the grade as TP310S.
What certificates are supplied with SS 310S pipe?
EN 10204 Type 3.1 Mill Test Certificate as standard, with Type 3.2 on request, plus PMI reports, NDT reports, intergranular corrosion test results to ASTM A262, heat treatment charts and third-party inspection by SGS, Bureau Veritas, TUV or Lloyd's Register.
