Stainless Steel 304 Pipes & Tubes

Stainless steel 304 pipes and tubes manufactured by Amardeep Steel Centre, Mumbai

Stainless Steel 304 Pipes & Tubes Manufacturer, Supplier & Exporter in India

Amardeep Steel Centre is a Mumbai based manufacturer, stockist and exporter of stainless steel 304 pipes and tubes, supplying ASTM A312 TP304 and ASME SA312 material to food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, architectural, water treatment and general industrial projects since 1982. SS 304 pipe is held ex-stock in seamless, welded, ERW and EFW construction from 1/8 inch NB to 30 inch NB, in schedules from SCH 5S through XXS, and dispatched to more than 40 countries.

Grade 304 is the default austenitic stainless because it solves the widest range of problems at the lowest cost. Where chloride exposure is the governing risk, the molybdenum-bearing 316 family is the correct step up. Where the pipework will be

extensively field welded and cannot be solution annealed afterwards, the low-carbon 304L variant is safer. We stock all three, and our technical team will tell you plainly when 304 is enough and when it is not.

Every consignment ships with an EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificate, with 3.2 certification, IBR Form III-D and third party inspection by SGS, Bureau Veritas, TUV or Lloyd's available on request. Request a quote with your NPS, schedule and quantity and our team will confirm price and availability the same working day.

What Is Stainless Steel 304 Pipe?

Stainless steel 304 pipe is the most widely specified grade of austenitic stainless steel pipe in industrial use. Its composition, roughly 18 to 20 percent chromium and 8 to 10.5 percent nickel, gives it a stable chromium oxide passive layer that resists a broad range of corrosive media, which is why the grade is informally called 18/8 stainless steel. SS 304 pipes combine that corrosion resistance with formability close to mild steel, good weldability without special filler requirements in most cases, and a clean hygienic surface, which makes them the default across food processing, chemical handling, architecture and general fabrication wherever a fully exotic alloy is not required. Our reference on 304 stainless steel composition, uses and properties covers the metallurgy in more depth, and what stainless steel pipes are and their types explains where 304 sits in the wider family.

ASTM A312 TP304 Pipe Specification: A312, A358, A213, A249 and A269 Explained

ASTM A312 is the governing US specification for seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel pipe intended for high temperature and general corrosive service; the ASME mirror is SA312. Within A312, TP304 designates standard-carbon Grade 304 and TP304L the low-carbon variant. Buyers asking for “ASTM A312 TP304 pipe” almost always mean this standard. The related specifications cover different product routes:

SS 304 Pipe Size Chart in MM: 304 Stainless Steel Tube Sizes

SS 304 pipe dimensions are set by NPS (nominal pipe size in inches) or DN (nominal diameter in mm) combined with a schedule that fixes wall thickness. Outside diameter is constant for a given NPS regardless of schedule; only wall thickness, and therefore bore and weight, changes. The table below is the complete ss 304 pipe size chart in mm across the schedules we stock.

Unit Weight of SS 304 and Common Pipe Weights by Size

Two related questions come up constantly: what does 304 stainless weigh per unit volume, and what does a specific pipe size weigh per metre. Both are answered below.

Density and unit weight: 304 stainless steel has a density of 8,000 kg per cubic metre, or 8.0 g per cubic cm. That figure is the basis for every weight in the charts on this page. Unit weight of an SS 304 pipe in kg per metre is calculated as 0.02466 multiplied by wall thickness in mm multiplied by (OD in mm minus wall thickness in mm).

Common sizes, SCH 40S, in kg per metre and kg per 6 metre length:

SS 304 Meaning: SS, TP304, SUS 304 and 18/8 Explained

Terminology on a purchase order is not always consistent between the buyer, the mill and the inspector. These are the terms that appear on SS 304 pipe documentation and what each one means.

Term

Meaning

SS

Stainless Steel. SS pipe simply means stainless steel pipe; it is not a separate specification.

TP304

Type 304 under ASTM A312. The TP prefix stands for Type and identifies the grade within the pipe standard.

UNS S30400

The Unified Numbering System designation for Grade 304 in North America.

Werkstoff 1.4301

The German material number for 304, used across European documentation.

SUS 304

The Japanese JIS designation. SUS stands for Steel Use Stainless. SUS 304 and TP304 are the same alloy.

AISI 304

The legacy American Iron and Steel Institute designation, still widely used in trade.

18/8 stainless

Shorthand for the nominal 18% chromium and 8% nickel content of Grade 304.

ASTM A312 / ASME SA312

The pipe specification. A312 is the ASTM version, SA312 the identical ASME version used for code work.

EN 10204 3.1

The Mill Test Certificate type issued by the manufacturer's own quality department.

SS 304 Pipe Pressure Rating: ASTM A312 TP304 Seamless

Indicative maximum working pressures in psig for standard seamless A312 TP304 pipe, per ANSI/ASME B31.1, from 100 F to 750 F. Pressure capability falls as temperature rises, which is the single most common oversight when a schedule is selected on room-temperature figures alone.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stainless Steel 304 Pipes & Tubes

What is stainless steel 304 pipe?

Stainless steel 304 pipe is an austenitic 18/8 chromium-nickel pipe made to ASTM A312 TP304 under UNS S30400. Its 18 to 20 percent chromium and 8 to 10.5 percent nickel form a self-repairing passive oxide layer, making it the most widely specified stainless grade in industrial piping.

What percentage is 304 stainless steel?

Grade 304 contains 18 to 20 percent chromium and 8 to 10.5 percent nickel, with carbon capped at 0.08 percent, manganese at 2 percent and silicon at 0.75 percent. The balance is iron. The 18/8 shorthand refers to the nominal chromium and nickel percentages.

What is the difference between SS 304 and SS 316 pipe?

316 contains 2 to 3 percent molybdenum and 304 contains none. That gives 316 markedly better resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater, coastal air and chloride-bearing chemicals. 304 is more economical and performs well in general atmospheric, food and architectural service.

What is the difference between SS 304 and SS 304L pipe?

Carbon content. 304 permits up to 0.08 percent, 304L up to 0.030 percent. The lower carbon in 304L prevents chromium carbide precipitation in the weld heat affected zone, so it is specified for pipework welded on site that cannot be solution annealed afterwards.

Is SS 304 pipe magnetic?

In the solution annealed condition 304 is austenitic and essentially non-magnetic. Cold working such as bending, swaging or heavy machining can induce a small amount of martensite and a slight magnetic response. This is normal and does not indicate the wrong grade has been supplied.

What is the maximum operating temperature for SS 304 pipe?

Approximately 870 C for oxidation resistance in continuous service. However, sustained mechanical strength is best retained below roughly 550 C. For pressure service above that, 304H with its higher carbon content is the correct specification because of its superior creep strength.

What sizes and schedules are available in SS 304 pipe?

Seamless from 1/2 inch to 16 inch NB, ERW and welded from 1/2 inch to 24 inch NB, and EFW from 6 inch to 100 inch NB, with overall stock spanning 1/8 inch to 30 inch NB in schedules from SCH 5S through XXS.

What is the price of SS 304 pipe per kg?

SS 304 pipe price tracks LME nickel and stainless coil rates and varies with seamless versus welded construction, schedule, finish, quantity and certification scope. Because those inputs move daily we quote live rather than publishing a list. Send your size, schedule and tonnage for a same-day price.

Can SS 304 pipe be used for drinking water lines?

Yes. Grade 304 is non-reactive, does not impart taste or leach into potable water, and is widely used in municipal and building water distribution. Where the supply is chlorinated heavily or brackish, 316 offers a greater margin against pitting over a long service life.

What is the difference between seamless and welded 304 pipe?

Seamless pipe is extruded or drawn from solid billet with no weld seam, giving uniform wall thickness and higher pressure capability. Welded pipe is formed from strip and seam welded, then heat treated, and is more economical at larger diameters and in non-critical service.

What is the HSN code for stainless steel 304 pipe?

Seamless stainless pipe generally falls under HSN 7304, with 73041110 for seamless stainless tubes and pipes. Welded stainless pipe falls under 7306, with 73064000 for other welded circular cross-section stainless pipe. Confirm the exact classification with your customs broker before filing.

Where can I buy SS 304 pipes and tubes?

Amardeep Steel Centre stocks SS 304 pipe and tube ex-stock in Mumbai and exports to more than 40 countries, with EN 10204 3.1 Mill Test Certificates supplied as standard and IBR Form III-D available. Send your NPS, schedule and quantity for a same-day quotation.
